There are several types of fixed resistors. The choice of which material and structure of the resistor depends on the specific requirements of the application circuit. High frequency circuits should use inductively distributed and capacitively distributed wirewound resistors, such as carbon film resistors, metal resistors, metal oxide resistors, thin film resistors, thick film resistors, alloy resistors, anticorrosive coatings, etc. resistors, etc. High gain small signal amplifier circuit should use low noise resistors, such as metal film resistors, carbon film resistors, wirewound resistors, etc., should not use noisy synthetic carbon film resistors and organic solid resistors.

Wirewound resistors have high power, low current noise, high temperature resistance, but large size. Ordinary wirewound resistors are usually used in low frequency circuits, or in voltage limiting resistors, voltage divider resistors, priming resistors, or bias resistors for high power transistors. High precision wirewound resistors are used in fixed attenuators, resistor boxes, computers, and various precision electronic instruments. The resistance of the selected resistor should be close to the nominal value calculated in the application circuit. It is best to use standard series resistors. Resistors used in general circuits are allowed to have an error of ±5% to ±10%. For resistors used in precision instruments and special circuits, precision resistors should be used. For resistors with accuracy less than or equal to 1%, such as 0.01%, 0.1%, 0.5%, order of magnitude resistors should be used. The power rating of the selected resistor should meet the power capacity requirements of the resistor in the application circuit. The power of the resistor should not generally be increased or decreased at will. If the circuit requires a power type resistor, the power rating can be 1 to 2 times higher than the power required by the actual application circuit.
